Dog arthritis is the same as human arthritis. And it can occur in all breeds of dogs. Dog arthritis is usually more prone to effecting larger and older breeds of dogs.

It will also help if you can elevate the dogs sleeping area about a foot off the ground. This will aid in less stress and pressure on their bones and joints.

Dog Arthritis Pain and Exercise

Like humans, exercise can be great for dog arthritis but there are some very important things to keep in mind when exercising your dog.

Limited exercise is key in dogs with arthritis. Don’t over do it! Once or twice around the block each day will be fine. Also you need to make sure it is gentle exercise! Try not to let your dog get to excited.

Sometimes our dogs think they are younger than they are, while this is often a great thing, it’s not when it comes to exercise. It is very easy to exercise them to the point of seeing them starting to limp! Avoid this. Some canine owners will give their dogs more of a workout on weekends because they have more time. Be very cautious and try not to do this.
